About
Rachel expresses her love of colour and passion for texture, material and form throughout her work. In 2005, Rachel entered her first exhibition in Baulkham Hills, The Orange Blossom Festival. She won second prize in the acrylics section with her piece titled “Temperature Rising”. In 2006 she made her first corporate sale of 6 pieces which hang in a Church Diocese in Pennant Hills, Sydney. She also became an accredited teacher for “Wrapertoire”, a form of fabric sculpture. She started using this technique in her artwork and in 2006 was awarded Highly Commended for her piece “Perfection II” in the Blue Mountains in Sydney. In 2007 she was awarded Highly Commended for her piece “Life, One Step At A Time” at the Winmalee Autumn Artfest, Blue Mountains, as well as Highly Commeded Craft Exhibitor for her collection of 13 fabric sculptures. In the past three years she has explored the fabric sculpture medium extensively and in early 2009 was awarded Best In Show for her first Blossom Tree, titled “Spring”, once again at Winmalee Autumn Artfest. She has pushed the boundaries with her sculpture and now creates works of art which require painstaking processes and a couple of hundred hours to produce. She also continues to bring the sculptural elements into her art work, crossing these two forms with ease. Rachel’s exploration of original ideas and creative use of different media makes her work fresh, evolving and exciting.
Rachel has just had one of her Blossom Trees published in the new “How to” book “Handmade Living”. It was launched at the Canberra Handmade Market on Saturday 4th Dec.
